Help! Andalusian costume wearing (X-posted)

Hi all,

A friend sent me an outfiit that he says is Andalusian, but I'm not sure how to wear it. It's like a long vest that wraps under your legs and back around your body... but where? The hips? Waist? Chest? Underarms?

Anyone got a pic of this type of costume so I wear it right?

This is a hand made costume. Both bra and belt are lined. The bra is very sturdy will hold it's shape well.The bra will fit a 36-38 B/C. This costume will work great for new students, hobbyist class recitals, parties, Goth night, belly fusion, photos, and performances.
This is an original one of a kind costume.

The bra will fit a 36-38 B/C. The bra cups are covered in a blue velvet panne' fabric. The bra is trimmed in a brown gimp trim about an inch wide, with a navy blue border. Beneath the trim is a belled and coined chain. At the center of the bra is an O-ring with a chain with bells attached. The side panels and the straps are made from the same fabric that covers the bra cups. The bra ties across the back kris- cross with D-rings. the bra straps are 48 inches long.

The belt is cover in the same fabric as the bra.This belt will fit a M-L(about up to a 14 in pant size and can be shortened) . The belt also has also has the same brown trim with the navy blue border. The belt is 37 inches long not including the tie ends. The tie ends are 18 inches long. The belt can be shortened if needed before it is shipped.The belt also has 3 Afghani pendants on it . 2 small silver ones and one large multi colored one at the center in the back. The ribbon fringe is made up of various yarns, lace, gimp trim and ribbon in various colors of blues and browns. On each side of the belt is there are silver belled and coined chain for sound and movement.
As stated before this is a one of a kind of original piece of wearable art
This costume has a real elegant flare to it moves very well

Red Pharonics BD costume...GORGEOUS

This costume is absolutely gorgeous...only problem is that I truly am NOT a cabaret gal, even though I tried. It has been worn only once. This thing is COVERED in sequins, and is absolutely stunning. The bra will fit a C to a D (I am a good C and I could put fakeseys in to get that great cleavage line), and the bra is set at 36" around the ribcage, with LOTS of room to move the hooks in or out. The skirt is a one piece, so no fiddling with a belt. It is elasticized and will fit my 40" hips snugly, but, again, has lots of elastic space to explore :) It has gorgeous sexy cutouts along the hip line, but not so big as to make you feel...erm....too exposed lol.

The costume is a complete piece set, including: Bra, one piece skirt/belt, the drapey armbands, 2 anklets, headband, veil, and (if I can find them) even matching earrings!

It runs for $725, I am asking for $650 plus $15 shipping and handling (insurance and tracking, naturally lol).

Costumes and clothes for dance

Are there any dancers in this tribe who make their own costumes for dance? If so, what do you set out to achieve with the design etc.? Do you make something that suits you, the dance, or the performance occasion (if there is a performance)?

Are practice clothes for dance as important as costumes for performance?

Anyone experience working with feathers?

Has anyone ever tried adding feathers to any sort of a dance costume? Is there anything that's good to know about working with them? If you stitch them down, should you also followup with a drop of glue to keep them in place? Are any particular type of feather better than others?

I am cleaning out my closet!!!! Technically I probably could have "cleaned" a little more, but getting these pictures done took forever!!
For sale are:
A pair of embroidered black harem/bloomer pants.
They are also beaded with small bells at the bottom.
These are low rise and would work best on sizes 6-12
The cost is $35 with $4 for shipping

A pair of white wrap around pants
Made in crinkled cotton gauze. They have white embroidery on the bottom. Great for summer!!
They will work for a size 8-10.
The cost is $25 with $4 shipping.

A pink rectangular hip scarf.
Will work for sizes 6-14.
All beading is hand done with bells added in a netting stitch. Really delicate and feminine :)
The price is $25 with $4 shipping

Black and Turquoise flared georgette skirt.
This skirt is slim at the top with a black velvet waste band and a zipper in the back. It flares out at the bottom with turquoise inserts. It's a great skirt for spinning :)
It will work for a size 10-12.
The price is $30 with $4 shipping

White, black and silver cabaret set.
Belt has some fringe with attached sheer skirt. The skirt has silver sequins and palettes on it. The bra is completely covered in white beads and sequins with some fringe and silver palettes.
It's a beautiful costume and would be great for a dancer that is a size 12-14. The bra would fit a 36-40 C cup or D with a lot of cleavage.
The cost is $75 with $6 shipping

SCA Fur lined Kausak Coat
This is gorgeous and great for wars!! It almost comes to the floor on me (I'm 5'4). It is lined with a sable type faux fur and has a line hood with fur trim.
The coat is made from a historically accurate Russian Kausak coat pattern. The only alteration I made was the addition of a hood.
This coat will work for a 6 to a 16. I made the arms large enough to fit over a couple layers of garb!!
The cost is $100 and shipping will be$15 (it's VERY heavy)

Tribal bra for sale 34C purple

The is a homemade bra. The bra will fit a 34 C. The bra is lined and very sturdy.
The bra is a great starter piece for a new student or hobbyist. Will work well for class recital parties or SCA events. The bra is covered in a purple velvet fabric. Along the top is a multi-colored trim that is about an inch wide. Below the trim is a metal fringe. This is the 1st time I have work with this and I love it! Make a good jingle noise when you do shimmies. It is a very old and rustic looking silver colored. The side panel that are attach to the bra cups are about 6 1/2 inches long. Black elastic is attach to the end on the side panel with a gold heart shaped clasp at the end (will form the shape of a heart when fasten) The clasp is pinned not sewn so you can adjust to your size. The neck straps are 28 inches long and can be cut and tied around your neck or for better support you can criss cross and sew to the end of the side panel or just sew to where the heart shape clasp is sewn for a straight over the should look. 25 yard purple 'gypsy' skirt for sale!!

I'm selling a gorgeous 25 yard gypsy style dance skirt of mine. It's never been worn, or used in any way, and so it's in perfect condition. And, it HAS to go... there's just no room for it, and I have no use for it.

I'm letting it go for $75.00 - s/h is going to be about $10 because once it's all packed up, it's actually pretty heavy.

The Queen of Sheba

I am working on becoming the Queen of Sheba for an event in September. I have been doing a lot of research, of course, and would love any input some of you educated and talented ladies might have :)

I am thinking in three veins at the moment. The egyptian influenced one. After she visited Solomon she was influnced by Egyptian stylings and is depicted in Egyptian dress.

Persian or Ethiopian also, as she was believed to be an Ethiopian queen, or perhaps Persian. If she was not Persian, she was heavily involved int he trade routes and would have had access to Persian stylings.

FRIENDS DON'T LET FRIENDS WEAR FUGLY COSTUMES!

So, I saw this mentioned in another thread and thought I would ask for help. My costume is not fugly, but it does not seem to be flatering so I thought I might ask for help. I am also posting this over in the BBBD tribe http://bigbeautifulbellydancers.tribe.net

I am a tribal style dancer, and what most would consider a 'big girl'. I see myself as curvy, and have no issues (not anymore at least) and I thought I looked ok in my tribal outfit, but after seeing some pics (see my profile with my snake), it seems the halter I choose along with my skirt, seems to shorten my torso (I am 5'7" - not really short), makes my hourglass go away, and makes me look ....

Well, what do you think? Suggestions??

what do you think of the ballet costumes? I think they are beautiful - classical. I never looked like that in my ballet costumes. I was so tall and thin with big feet. My feet weren't as noticable when I was on point, but then I ws a head taller than everyone else!
